The UNU Climate Resilience Initiative will participate in IWPP3 BUDAPEST – The International Public Policy Association’s
International Workshops on Public Policy, June 28 – 30, 2022, Budapest, Hungary contributing to thematic session: Policy Process, Policy Making, Policy Implementation in the sub-section (W05) “Climate Policy Integration at Stake”
The working title of the presentation: Integrated Climate and Disaster Management Policy in Cross-border Context- Call for Action with a focus on European Floods 2021
Key points in the intervention will include
- Gaps in vertical and horizontal structuring of climate and disaster risk reduction (DRR) services in settings of cross border landscapes, including river basins (subnational to supranational)
- Account of key challenges faced by communities and states in managing the operational efficiency of climate resilience efforts and disaster risk governance taking note of July 2021
- Explanation of the ‘shock’ and ‘trauma’ felt by the impacted communities point to the gaps in the climate services and adaptation strategies that often lack attention to mental health and psychosocial wellbeing.
- Presentation of the key highlights from the UNU The Climate Resilience Initiative that supports ‘call for action’ towards integrated and inclusive climate services at national and cross border levels
- How multi-level governance (MLG) perspective can support better coordination and productive collaboration across states, scales, sectors, stakeholders, and institutions, and why does the perspective of diverse stakeholder’s including local communities and citizens/volunteers matter in cocreating collective solutions?
- Examples of good practices in integrated national and regional/transboundary climate change adaptation strategies and the vision of resilient landscapes and resilient communities.
